This month has been dedicated to creating awareness about cancer which contributes to 7% of our deaths today.

HERE IS: Everything you need to know about cervical cancer.

Most cancers are not preventable because the causation is not yet clear. Fortunately, Cervical cancer which is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in our country is preventable.

This cancer is caused by a virus called HPV which is sexually transmitted. Risk factors for the development of this cancer include early age of first intercourse, multiple sexual partners, smoking, immunosuppression, and infection with HPV.

Prevention involves avoidance of above risk factors as well as screening usually by a pap smear. The vaccine against cervical cancer is also available for use in most of the countries.
