Kitchen saving tips

Kitchen saving tips

Are you a busy mum? Busy student? Busy bachelor? or maybe just can't be bothered with much stress in the kitchen? I'm always looking for time saving ideas and here are some I employ regularly.
  • Chop up veggies and store them in your fridge for later use.
  • Cook enough food at once to last 2/3 meals. Leftovers are wonderful for saving on preparation/cooking time.
  • Keep your shelves stocked with ingredients for quickie meals such as eggs, pasta, bread, spices and herbs.
  • Leave carrots and potatoes unpeeled for dishes where you can get away with it. This will save time and add fiber to the meal.
  • If you have house-help, train them to do all the preparation so that you can do the cooking later.
  • Go ahead and cheat some times by using frozen veggies and stock cubes, this saves on a whole lot of time.
  • Portion and pack your fresh meat into the freezer. You then only defrost the portion required rather than the whole cut from the butchers.
  • "Clean as you go!" I learned this while training in hotel kitchens. Keep soapy water in the sink and clean dishes/utensils as you use them, recycle so it’s not a huge clean up job at the end. Also remember to clean the work surfaces as you go.
  • Keep organized by making a weekly schedule. This will prevent you from going around in circles in your kitchen and control your budget!
